Welcome to the Irish Children's Summer Program! Whether you are veterans of the program or newcomers to the ICSP, we extend the warmest of welcomes for the Summer of 2008, and offer heartfelt thanks for your generosity and your good will in opening your hearts to our young Irish visitors. You will never fully know your impact on their lives, but teachers, headmasters and parents in Belfast tell us that it is a profound one.

Through participation in and support of the Irish Children's Summer Program you are working for peace in a very tangible and personal way. Through the Buddy System, and by enabling American children to get together with Irish children, you are nurturing friendships and understanding that would not be possible at home in Belfast. In past years the children have often told us "I didn't know any Catholics" or "I didn't know any Protestants before I came here." And they seem amazed to discover "They're just like us!"

This website seeks to give you some background material that can be helpful in understanding the Irish children and the hosting experience. There are many resources available to program participants - Board Sponsors, Irish chaperones and various professionals in the community - all of whom are eager to help answer questions that may arise.

Every child is different and special, and each host family's experience will be unique to them alone. Host families give a great deal of themselves to the Irish children and to the goals of this Program. Our hope is that American host families and Program supporters will find the program as rewarding and enjoyable an experience as the Irish children.

The ICSP Board wishes you a happy and blessed summer of 2008.
